1. What is it like to attend an all-girls school?
The all-girls campus at ICA allows for more opportunities — academic, leadership and athletic — for each student. ICA students express themselves freely and thrive in the school's unique nurturing environment. Young men are included in the campus environment: they participate in school plays, cheer on sports teams and sometimes visit friends after school.
The best way to see what an all-girls school is like, however, is to visit the ICA campus.
2. What does ICA look for in an applicant?
ICA is looking for quality students who demonstrate the capability to handle a rigorous academic program and extracurricular activities and have the maturity to be good employees within our Corporate Work Study Program.
3. Where can I get more information and an application?
Information packets and application forms are available through our web page/On-line and at our Open House. You can also request an application packet by calling or emailing the Admissions Office.
4. What entrance exams are required for admissions?
All applicants are required to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT).
5. How should I prepare for my interview?
ICA wants to get to know the real you. Be yourself and you'll be fine.
6. When is Open House and do I need to make an appointment?
No pre-registration is necessary for this event, just drop in after 9 am and take one of our on-going tours.
7. I missed Open House: what do I do?
Please call the admissions office and make an appointment to visit the school.
8. What is your tuition? Do you offer Tuition assistance?
ICA’s current tuition is $4,000.
ICA is committed to providing tuition assistance on the basis of family need.
9. Can only Catholics attend ICA?
We are a Catholic high school which welcomes students of all faiths to grow together as God’s people.
10. Why do I have to present my social security card?
Because all students will be employed by a business, each student must present her social security card as part of the application process.
11. Why do we need to present our taxes, W-2’s, or other financial information?
There are two reasons why we request these documents and information.
(1) ICA is designed to serve those families and students who desire a private, college prep education but are not in a financial position to afford traditional Catholic High School.
(2) We use a Per Capita Income Guide provided by the Cristo Rey Network and each family’s income must fall within those guidelines in order for a student to be considered for acceptance and receive financial aid.
12. Do ICA students wear uniforms?
ICA students wear a uniform everyday (brown heather skirt, white blouse/polo, burgundy pull-over sweater, khaki knee-length shorts or khaki pants). On work days, students wear professional work attire (slacks or skirts, collared blouse, ICA black vest, dress shoes).
13. What sports are offered at ICA?
ICA offers volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, and tennis. Please check out the “Athletics” link under “Student Life” on our webpage for further information.
14. Can students buy lunch at school?
Yes, full cafeteria service is offered for students who wish to buy lunch at school.
15. Do ICA students have their own lockers?
Each student is assigned a locker and combination padlock. Lockers are on designated class
floors with the exception of freshwomen lockers which are under their Senior Big sisters’ lockers.
16. What is CWSP (Corporate Work Study Program)?
A group of four students work in a job-sharing team to cover a standard business week, Monday through Friday. Each student works five full days a month. Work day hours and academic schedules are structured to enable work without students missing classes.
The jobs are entry-level work opportunities in professional office settings. Cristo Rey student workers do filing, reception work, data entry, clerical work, computer work, mail room jobs, copying and faxing, among other standard office tasks..
17. How are students matched to jobs in the community?
Students will be asked about their preferences for different job possibilities; as much as possible, subject to available jobs, the work will be geared to student interest.
18. How so students get to work?
Transportation to and from the job site will be provided by the school, either by public transportation (MUNI / BART) or by mini-van; chaperones travel with the students. On days of corporate work, students begin and end their day at ICA for attendance reasons and so that they make a daily connection at school.
19. How does my daughter make up missed school work when she’s working?
Work day hours and academic schedules are structured to enable work without missing classes. Students never miss class time on a work day. When a student works, her entire class goes to work.
20. How do students learn the office skills they will need for their jobs?
Prior to classes starting in the fall, students receive a few weeks of intensive job training at ICA to acquire the skills needed for successful corporate experiences. Work-site orientation and training will also be provided at the actual job sites office.
Please know that during the application process, we will cover these and other subjects more thoroughly.
