Healthy Lifestyles: ICA partners with The Food Education Project

ICA welcomes The Food Education Project. FEP will be teaching the health education curriculum to the freshman Health and Physical Education classes on Wednesdays and Fridays. Christine Shayesteh, a Personal Counselor at ICA, is a board member of FEP and will deliver the curriculum to the students. She will be joined by other clinicians and experts from FEP. A component of FEP's program includes planting and helping the students maintain a food garden. More information about FEP can be found on their website: www.foodedproject.com

THE WORKING WORLD

April was an exciting month for CWSP!

ICA received a visit from California Supreme Court Justice Ming Chin, who addressed the student body in a speech about the importance of pursuing your passion and developing a strong work ethic. His story was particularly relevant to the girls this month as they prepare to complete their end of the year resume and cover letter project. Justice Chin made all of us consider how important it is to set goals, make connections and build strong relationships. Following his presentation, Justice Chin joined us for a reception, hosted by Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass and co-hosted by our sponsoring law firms, Brandi Law and Shook, Hardy & Bacon. CWSP is looking forward to inviting more leading professionals to speak at ICA in the coming year!

TECHNOVATION CHALLENGE

Technovation Challenge 2013

For the 2013 Technovation challenge, girls were tasked to develop an app that solves a problem in their local community. This could be a health problem that affects their community, a social problem, or a scarce resource. Over 12 weeks, girls step through an online curriculum and work with mentors from the tech industry to help them develop a potential solution and program a mobile phone application to solve it. They learn how to study their competition, identify ways in which they can gather users, and strategize to earn revenue. They develop a business plan and pitch their ideas (through video) to a regional online competition.

The first new students of the Class of 2017 have registered and enrolled. Over 200 applications were received this year. The Admissions committee was hard at work reviewing a record breaking number of applications. Over 85 incoming students attended ICA's Welcome Day where they were greeted by faculty, staff and current families. This incoming class will represent over 41 different elementary and middle schools and we proudly announce that 26% of the incoming freshmen have had a family member who has attended ICA.
