With Gratitude

We are writing to thank you for your generous support of ICA Cristo Rey through your participation in our 2014 “Education That Works” Gala. Your donation makes a significant difference in the future success of all ICA students. Together, with you and other charitable benefactors, over $300,000 was raised for the benefit of the young women attending ICA’s college preparatory/Cristo Rey work-study program.  The Bright Future Fund contributions will be used to support programs that directly affect and enhance the day-to-day education of these young women, including:

  • College application fees and tours
  • Student transportation and chaperone expenses to and from work
  • Student Retreats
  • School uniforms
  • Sports equipment and uniforms
  • Ipads to encourage learning in and outside the classroom

As a result of your kind generosity, students will realize a transformative educational experience rooted in the mission of ICA Cristo Rey.  Your gift strengthens the Dominican and Cristo Rey value that Every Girl Matters.

Thank you again for your generosity and commitment to ICA Cristo Rey.

We hope that you will be able to join us this year for our 8th Annual Gala on Thursday, November 12, 2015.

With much gratitude,

Mary Lawson                                Karen McGee

On Monday afternoon, January 12, the faculty enjoyed a mini-workshop on Design Thinking facilitated by Emma Scripps and Annette Diefenthaler from IDEO as part of their outreach program for educators.  In small groups, teachers worked through the process of Design Thinking to brainstorm a "school library of the future" that would engage students.  We came up with wonderful ideas, even if implementation is not immediately possible, all recognized how this process of focused creativity could be applied both in the classroom and as we consider challenges we face as educators.  Many thanks to our friends at IDEO!

Design Thinking Women

ICA students participated in a Design Thinking course hosted by our Math department and taught by Design Thinking mentor, Laura Salisbury.  Design Thinking asks us to look into our world, identify and define problems, and then use a simple methodology to create innovative solutions. For this course, the girls learned and applied the design thinking methodology to discover how they could create a meaningful library experience for the modern teen. They worked with the Mission Branch Library in San Francisco to observe their patrons and space, define problem areas, ideate and build prototypes and deliver solutions that could be implemented in the library of the future. The 10 week program culminated in each team presenting their solutions to the ICA student body and for our esteemed panel of judges including Melinda Briana Epler, CEO of Change Catalyst and Laura Tarango, Children’s Services Mission Branch Manager for the San Francisco Public Library.
ICA is looking forward to developing a partnership with the Mission Branch Library to help implement some of the solutions the teams designed.
