Senior Story: Loretta Bonifacio

My name is Loretta Bonifacio and I am a senior at Immaculate Conception Academy. I entered ICA as a junior transfer student and have had the pleasure of being acquainted with the wonderful faculty and staff, in addition to establishing strong bonds with my fellow classmates. My experience with the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) has been one of genuine integrity and commitment to excellence. My job for the past two years at Gap Inc. Headquarters has allowed me to develop and expand my communication and verbal skills, adequately preparing me for the journey ahead. Though I will be attending UC Davis in the fall, it will be nearly impossible to forget what ICA has taught me: to be more appreciative of what I have rather than ponder what could have been. I rest assured that as my time at ICA culminates; I will always be a Spartan for life.

Crabby Girls

On May 18th the biology classes went to the beach for a service learning project. The entire sophomore class participated in gathering field data for the Gulf of the Farrallones on the Pacific mole crab. The students learned how to do a transect, how to gather the crabs, how to measure them and how to identify females from males. The sophomores also parcipated in the beach clean up and researched how trash effects organisms living at the beach, in the beach and how our trash contributes to the extent of the "Pacific Garbage Patch."

Living History Lesson

The Sophomore Honors Modern World History class is participating in a pilot project with Facing History and Ourselves and the USC Shoah Foundation. The students are honoring Holocaust survivors by creating videos from the Shoah Foundation archives and using the iWitness program to create the testimonials. Teacher Eileen O’Kane invited Helen Farkas, a survivor of Auschwitz during World War II, to speak with ICA students at a special assembly. The students heard of Helen's strength and survival.
