The Working World

We celebrate the start of the year with 71 jobs and 300 students. Our program is gaining strength as we welcome 25 new partners who have signed on to give our students phenomenal work experience. We have students working in the front office of the World Champion Giants, as lab techs at FivePrime, and in the Development department at Stanford University. In the coming newsletters, keep an eye out for highlights of our new partners. We will share what they do and how they are working with our students. Stay tuned.

We want to celebrate the companies whose students won student worker of the week: Clinton Reilly Holdings, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Gap Risk Management, and Community Initiative.

We also congratulate Waste Management in Oakland for their Team of the Month and for their outstanding performance in September.

Thank you to all of our supporters and co-educators creating the classroom in the field for our students to learn what it takes to be a success in the workplace. We look forward to continued good work!

Marie Lawler joined the ICA community this summer as the new director of Campus Ministry and teacher of Religious Studies. Although new to ICA, Marie spent a year in the Cristo Rey Network at Verbum Dei High School in Watts (Los Angeles), CA. Marie has spent her professional career in Catholic education serving in a variety of roles. She is excited to work with the young women on the Campus Ministry team creating opportunities for prayer, reflection, service and growth.

The following is a reflection shared by Marie at an ICA family Mass:

"As times changed and the needs of the young women to be ready for their futures changed as well, ICA under the guidance of the Sisters were able to see something new and possible. As a member of the Cristo Rey network ICA students are able to see other possibilities in careers, companies and corporations that may be their destinies. Generations of young women have sat in this same auditorium and have listened, learned and laughed together all the while pursuing their dreams. We are grateful to be a part of this legacy of pursuing truth and envisioning that which is yet to be seen".

Spartan Stories

ICA hosted its 9th Annual Program and College Fair on Friday, September 27, 2013. This tradition is a wonderful way for the girls to learn about colleges, volunteer opportunities, and enrichment programs. Our goal was to provide our ICA young women with the opportunities to connect with and learn about schools across the country as well as enrichment programs that will support their path to college.
